Space Loaf. Whole wheat bread that every ship bakes and has a lot in reserve to make sure the crew stays healthy and has all the carbohydrates, proteins, and other nutrients we need. It was also the idea of the Expeditions Fleet nutritionists to make sure that every ship has plenty of the space loaves in case supplies run low and supply ships are still days if not weeks away.
Qualification for everyone serving on an Expeditions ship is to be able to mix the ingredients and able to operate oven. From the captains to cadets and the oldest to the youngest.
The idea of the space loaf came from the British national loaf that was made popular in the Second World War. It was created for national consumption fortified with calcium and vitamins. This was created because of the war in Europe that created a shortage of white flour and sugar.
Not many liked it but it fed a whole nation. And on all Expeditons ships, we have the Space Loaf. Every crew member was expected to know how to make it. If you did not know how, you don’t get to board an Expeditions ship.
