Dawn of Civilian Space Travel

Do you know what today is? It’s a big day for travel across the planet and across space between your planet and moon. And, of course, beyond. A little known company called Virgin Galactic in New Mexico took another step towards travel through space when one of its founders, Richard Branson, along with two pilots and three other astronauts flew on the Unity via its mothership, Eve, on Virgin Galactic Unity 22 suborbital flight at around 7:30 AM Pacific Standard Time.

These space travelers, pioneers if you like, managed to fly up to 86.1 kilometers or 53.5 miles.

What does this mean for the average human being on earth? If you’re reading this, it means you are a big step closer to realizing the dream of flying out into space. It does not matter whether you are five years old or fifty years old. Space is within your grasp. One day, you will no longer be point towards stars in the sky but be among the stars orbiting earth, staying on the moon or Mars.

It also means that you will have your work cut out for you. You will have to work harder than ever to make sure the opportunities to go into space does not escape you. And there will be a lot of chances for you to make that happen.

Today was just the beginning. The whole test flight was around 90 minutes. The crew was in space for about 9 minutes in space, adding about a total of 72 minutes of space flight during just one short flight. Of course, in a few years, this will seem quite trivial when dozens if not hundreds of humans will be travel to space as astronauts or space tourists.

Now, Richard Branson is someone you should get to know and read up on. In fact, it is Sir Richard Branson of the Virgin brands that he owns, making him one the richest person in the world. He had dreamt about going into space since he was a child, much like you and me. He worked and worked at it and took advantage of opportunities that opened up to him and risked much to make this happen.

He and others like Elon Musk of SpaceX has made things easier for us to travel into space and have provide us with a lot of opportunities that will be available to us. Work at it, humans. We want to see you out here with us.
